Mixed Media Artist
It’s the title given to those of us who like to explore, play, draw, paint, collage, assemble, sew and combine different materials and ideas.
Recently, elements from the past; vintage ephemera, unique objects, and antique photos are thoughtfully being placed in my collage and assemblage pieces. There is tremendous joy in mixing the old with the new. The fusion of the past with the present inspires a fresh communication. Each artwork is an expression of the peace and connection found within the used discarded items; blended with paint, paper, ink and other mediums…a new story emerges.
Collectors describe my work as soft, simply stated and with a dash of whimsical charm. Howbeit, an artist’s work is ever changing and evolving…
I’m a regular contributor for Stampington & Company publications including Somerset Studio, Somerset Apprentice, Sew Somerset, Somerset Life and Somerset Memories.
The love of art began at a very young age. It was certainly my favorite class in school. I’ve dabbled in many creative art forms over the years; photography, pottery, sewing/quilting, painting, bookmaking, knitting, just to name a few.
One of my earliest memories is of going to summer camp with my two older siblings. It was an exciting adventure; there were campfires, games, music, swimming, hiking and of course arts & crafts. The art building had large windows and was located right across from the pool. During craft time we could see and hear the older kids playing and splashing; most of the children from my age group couldn’t wait until it was our turn to swim. I on the other hand, would have been content to stay in the art room with all the paint, paste, string, leaves, beads and wooden sticks quietly crafting away.
